Architectural design has dynamic needs, which are constantly changing. The people who will be using the building can change, and the use the building will have can also change, and the context, historical and physical, can change. The architect has to take into account basic needs as providing adequate air and ventilation, livable temperature, water, noise control, the light use... He or she also has to be conscious of human scale, the importance of public and private spaces, safety... Furthermore different elements should be considered in every building, no matter its destination. It should be resistant to fire or earthquakes; it must protect against the weather, and it must be able to stand up under its own weight, plus that of its contents. As well, a building can't be isolated from its surroundings. It must be connected with outside channels, such as electrical power sources, telephone lines, sewer systems, transportation.
